Outstanding results for the May sales in Paris


Supported by strong results and sustained demand, the May sales dedicated to 20th and 21st century art totalled nearly €28 million, confirming the market’s vitality and the enduring interest of collectors in works distinguished by their rarity, quality, and provenance. Sell with Christie’s

The Design sale on 21 May opened the season with an outstanding result of €14.5 million. A pair of Éléphanteau armchairs by Jean Royère reached €1,129,000, while a rare Cerf et Renard console by Diego Giacometti, emblematic of his poetic menagerie, sold for €2,460,000. The set of fifty works by Louis Cane, produced between 1969 and 1978, was acquired for €1.7 million, confirming growing interest in experimental practices at the intersection of art and design.

The online sales also enjoyed great success. The Contemporary Art auction exceeded €3.5 million, led by Profondeurs veloutées by Chu Teh-Chun, which sold for €201,600. A work by Hans Hartung doubled its high estimate at €100,800, while a painting by Aboudia tripled its estimate at €113,400. The Impressionist and Modern Art sale reached over €2.2 million. Two artworks by André Lhote shone, fetching €277,200 (Portrait de ma femme) and €107,100 (Suite de gestes). Sonia Delaunay’s Rythme coloré sold for €138,600, and Paul Signac’s Port de Saint-Tropez reached €37,800, three times its high estimate.

Finally, on 28 May, the white-glove sale of the exceptional collection of European Minimalist and Kinetic art assembled by Helga and Edzard Reuter achieved €7.55 million with 100% of lots sold. This sale was highlighted by the performance of Relief Planétaire Terre (Marseille, Aix) (RP 24) by Yves Klein, which sold for €1,613,000. Other notable works include Concetto Spaziale by Lucio Fontana, sold for €1,008,000, and Weißes Feld by Günther Uecker, which reached €403,200.
