Clive Davis spent a lifetime discovering greatness. As one of the most influential music executives of the last six decades, he possessed an extraordinary ability to recognise and cultivate genius before the rest of the world. His career was shaped by artists including Whitney Houston, Bruce Springsteen, Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys, and that same instinct guided his approach to collecting art. Bringing together works by some of the defining artists of his generation, including Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Frank Stella, Jean Dubuffet, Jean-Michel Basquiat and Joan Mitchell, the collection spans movements and generations, from Pop and Minimalism to Abstract Expressionism and Neo-Expressionism. Alongside major works, a remarkable group of portraits offers an intimate record of Davis’s friendships with leading figures in art and music. Together, these works reveal a collector attuned to originality, influence and the enduring power of a singular artistic voice.
