1948 BRISTOL 400 SALOON
Registration No. JLW 598
Chassis No. 400/1/179
Engine No. 400/85/1135
In primer paint with tan leather upholstery. Right hand drive
As demand for aircraft dropped after the Second World War, Bristol diversified its engineering capacity and skill into quality motor cars. The first production Bristol, introduced in 1947, was the Type 400 with a two-litre engine derived from the pre-war BMW 6-cylinder unit. Its modernistic design with aerodynamic bodyshell, which had been developed with the aid of a wind tunnel, enabled the Type 400 to reach speeds in excess of 90 mph. Built with the same precision as the Second World War aeroplanes, less than 700 Type 400s were produced before it was succeeded by the Type 401.
This unrestored classic is ready for restoration and thought to be complete except for the bumpers and starter motor. While it is described as in poor condition throughout it is believed the engine was overhauled about six years ago. It comes with a current V5 certificate.
