The tankard is very similar in feel and quality of decoration to the John Donne tankard of James II in the Colonial Williamsburg Museum, No.236, also illustrated Hornsby, Pewter of the Western World, p.259.
Michaelis illustrates another tankard with a lion in British Pewter, p.50.
For a discussion on flat lids see the Journal of the Pewer Society, Spring 1992 by Ian Robinson.
