Yee Bon once said, "I always think that when Chinese people learn Western art, we should incorporate the characters of our race into it, we should have a fuller understanding of our own nation." The landscape of Yee Bon expresses the local culture of Southern China. His still-life shows his taste and personality in Chinese aesthetics. The choice of theme, setting and colour reflect his experience. Chinese Sacred Lily (Lot 1165) permeates a sense of classical realism, tranquil and calm. The pot of Chinese Sacred Lily on the round wooden table and the round tangerines tell the viewers that it is the season of spring. Yee Bon does not apply bold red colour to show the atmosphere of the festive season. Chinese Sacred Lily expresses the reserved and introspective quality of Chinese literati; still, it shows the wish of Chinese people to be united as a family at the beginning of a year. The brushstrokes are delicate. The brushworks that delineate the slender leaves of Chinese Sacred Lily reflect the Chinese ink painting style.
