Chrysanthemum-shaped dishes were very popular in the 18th century, appearing in monochrome porcelains of the Yongzheng (1723-1735) and Qianlong (1736-1795) reigns. The porcelain dishes were made in a complete series of twelve colours, the most notable set is in the Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in Kangxi Yongzheng Qianlong, Hong Kong, 1989, p. 316, no. 145. See a pair of spinach-green jade examples of the same size and form sold at Christie's New York, 3 December 1992, lot 91.
