TWO CARVED CINNABAR LACQUER SPITTOON-FORM BOWLS AND COVERS
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-95)
Each vessel has a shallow domed cover with onion-shaped gilded finial, the exteriors of the bowls are carved with a diaper pattern and the underside of the flattened lobed rim is embellished with shaped cartouche variously enclosing rocks, flowers and flowerheads. The cover of one is decorated with lotus heads and scrolling foliage. The other with bats, interlocking archaic scrolls and lotus. The black lacquer interiors have a gilt floral design.
