The inscription to the side of the seal reads kan jin luo hua neng ji zui, which may be translated as 'watching all the flowers fall, lamenting the transience of life'. This poetic line is extracted from the Song Dynasty (960-1279) poem Yu Lou Chun: Dong Feng You Zuo Wu Qing Ji, composed by Yan Jidao (1038-1110?).
