Lot Essay

Nathalie Sedgwick Colby (1875-1942) was an American writer, translator and author of novels, including 'Green Forest' and 'A man can build a house'.
Somov befriended the author who in turn deeply valued her relationship with the artist. Unexpectedly, Mrs Colby, a novelist and friend, came over from New York...she's saying that I made a deep impression on her and that I taught her how to understand art...
Letter dated 4 July 1931, p. 385
