With global participation from 38 countries, the six live and online sales of Christie’s Asian Art Week in New York achieved a total of US$43,701,125. Seven world auction records were achieved and seven lots exceeded US$1 million across the sales.
The top lot of the biannual series was Jehangir Sabavala’s The Embarkation, which sold for US$1,590,000 and achieved a new world auction record for the artist. Other notable results included Katsushika Hokusai’s woodblock print of Kanagawa oki nami ura (Under the well of the Great Wave off Kanagawa), which realised US$687,500; two massive parcel-gilt bronze figures of deities from the Late Ming dynasty, 16th – 17th century, which realised US$1,158,000; and a South Indian bronze figure of Shri Devi from the 15th century, which sold for US$387,500.
