Sale Overview

On 28 October, Christie’s Fine Chinese Classical Paintings and Calligraphy auction presents an array of rare and important works from distinguished private collections. Highlights of the sale include Ni Zan’s River Pavilion, Mountain Colours, a seminal masterpiece with prominent exhibition and literature records; Chen Chun’s Li Bai’s Song of Xiangyang in Cursive Script, a long handscroll from the collection of the renowned Taiwanese scholar and former deputy director of the National Palace Museum, Chiang Chao-shen (1925-1996); and Wen Zhengming’s Banquet on a Snowy Night from an important Japanese private collection and previously belonged to Luo Zhengyu.  The sale also features imperial works by Emperor Qianlong, Emperor Jiaqing, Emperor Xuantong and Empress Dowager Cixi, as well as paintings and calligraphy executed by Buddhist monks of the Ming and Qing period.
