Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art

Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art

Sale Overview

This autumn, the Important Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art auction presents more than 150 extraordinary lots, all with notable provenance. Leading the sale is a rare and fine blue and white ‘Immortal’ bowl made by the imperial kilns in Jingdezhen for the Xuande court. The bowl is exquisitely painted using cobalt-blue, depicting the celebrated theme of Chuixiao yinfeng, ‘playing the flute to attract the phoenix’, symbolising a wish for a prosperous reign under the emperor. Further highlights include a magnificent and large famille rose ‘Hundred Deer’ hu-form vase dating to the Qianlong period and a rare Hongwu blue and white ‘Three Friends of Winter’ ewer, which is the only example with this motif in private hands. The sale will offer several distinguished private collections worldwide, encompassing multiple categories, including the Yidetang collection of ceramics and works of art, the Jinshitang collection of jade carvings, the Yamanaka Tateo collection, a French private collection of carved lacquers, and a superb pair of zitan corner-leg painting tables and a pair of zitan ‘official’s hat’ armchairs from a distinguished American private collection.
