Ravishing Blue : Imperial Porcelains From An Important Private Collection

Ravishing Blue : Imperial Porcelains From An Important Private Collection

Sale Overview

Christie’s Hong Kong is honored to present Ravishing Blue: Imperial Porcelains from an Important Private Collection, a single-owner auction showcasing three masterpieces from the Yongle, Yongzheng, and Qianlong reigns. This sale highlights the pinnacle of craftsmanship and artistic achievement in Ming and Qing imperial porcelain.

The highlight of the auction is a Yongzheng fine and extremely rare large blue and white ‘dragon’ vase, tianqiuping, depicting nine dynamic dragons chasing flaming pearls amidst clouds, a piece of unparalleled rarity in the market. Equally remarkable is a Yongle fine and very rare blue and white ‘bamboo, rock and plantain’ vase, meiping, its elegant form and refined decoration exemplifying the exceptional skill of the early Yongle imperial kilns, with the cobalt-blue pigment displaying the characteristic ‘Sumali’ speckles and subtle tonal variations. Completing the trio is a Qianlong fine and very rare blue and white ‘peach’ vase, its unique shape adorned with an auspicious motif symbolising the ‘Five Blessings and Longevity’, likely created to celebrate the emperor’s birthday during the early Qianlong period.

This auction not only traces the evolution of blue-and-white porcelain over four centuries but also brings together these three treasures in a rare and exceptional offering, inviting collectors to partake in this extraordinary event.
