Prints

Prints extend the language of drawing, enabling artists to create multiple iterations of their work through a transfer process. Although printmaking involves reproducing an image, a print is far more than a mere copy — the medium invites experimentation and evolution, often fostered by the close collaboration between the artist and the print studio.

In Europe, printmaking flourished after the arrival of the printing press in the mid-15th century. Old Master prints by artists such as Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn and Francisco Goya shaped the development of the medium and remain highly sought-after at auction.

In the modern era, artists including Andy Warhol, Helen Frankenthaler, David Hockney and Lucian Freud have continued to explore printmaking through techniques such as etching, lithography, screenprinting and woodcut.
