Painted in 1920, this revolutionary painting marks a pivotal breakthrough in the development of Mondrian’s visionary Neo-Plastic style. A bold statment of intent, it embodied his newly crystallised artistic vision with pure planes of colour and precisely calibrated lines. One of just eight paintings he completed that year, five of which are now held in internationally renowned museum collections, Composition III is the most important Mondrian offered at auction in Europe since 2009.
