Americana Week

  • Event date 17 - 19 January
  • Event location New York

From presidential portraits to a presidential address, Americana Week offers a number of opportunities to own rare and exciting historical pieces.

Leading the Fine Printed and Manuscript Americana sale is the Stamp Act Defiance Placard, a handwritten protest against the Stamp Act at the dawn of the American Revolution, one of only two extant copies. Other documents from America's historic beginnings include the first record of Robert E. Lee’s acceptance of surrender at Appomattox and important printings of the U.S. Constitution.

The 19th Century American & Western Art sale boasts mainstays of the Hudson River School, including the lush, tropical scenes of Martin Johnson Heade and the stately panoramas of Thomas Cole, as well as the western masterwork, Afterglow, Green River, Wyoming, by Thomas Moran.

The extensive Important Americana sale ranges from an early Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington and a folk painting by Joshua Johnson, the first African-American professional portraitist, to Chippendale chairs carved by John Pollard, early works by Tiffany & Co. and a very rare pair of Chinese export dragon-carp tureens and stands.
