A cased pair of 54-bore Belgian percussion target pistols
Inscribed Johan (sic) Manton, London, circa 1850
With sighted twist multigroove rifled octagonal barrels each inscribed 'London' on the top flat, patent breeches engraved with sprays of foliage, scroll engraved tangs, signed back-action locks engraved with scrollwork and foliage, figured walnut half-stocks each carved with a scallop shell in relief on the fore-end, the butts cut with fish-scale chequering, white-metal mounts including spur trigger-guards, vacant white-metal escutcheons, ebony pommels each with white-metal butt-trap with hinged gilt lid cast and chased in relief with a bearded mask (one dented), and blued set triggers (minor patches of pitting on the locks and barrels): in original brass-bound fitted case lined in green velvet, with accessories (some later), Liège proof
