Well carved in low relief, in the style of bamboo carving, with a bearded scholar resting under the shade of a low, leaning pine tree while a serving boy approaches with a cup on a tray, the scene continuing around the body with another knotted, gnarled pine tree and fantastic taihu rocks, the foot and rim with molded edge

According to Wang et al., p. 198, the style of the carving recalls the work of the bamboo sculptor Wu Luzhen
