The case with foliate-tied gilt metal handle to the cushion-moulded top decorated with gilt-metal foliate sound fret mounts, Tompion's typical gilt-metal foliate mounts to the front door with inverted door lock and the serial number 54 stamped on the door cill, glazed sides and rear door, the 6 in. sq. gilt-brass dial signed Tho:Tompion Londini fecit at the base of the dial interupting a scored line border engraving, the silvered chapter ring with Roman and Arabic numerals and sword-hilt half-hour markers, pierced blued steel hands (hour hand restored), winged cherub spandrels, latches to the dial feet (one re-positioned) and to the five ringed pillars of the single gut fusee movement, the verge escapement with original knife-edge pendulum with calibrated gilt rating nut, the pull quarter repeat on two bells (one later) via Tompion's repeat system with single-cocked early steel lever system operated from either side of the case, the backplate engraved with tulips amongst scrolling foliage and signed in the centre Tho:Tompion Londini Fecit within a narrow rectangular reserve
