Of shallow circular form with cusped rim on short foot, the interior with a central roundel containing a naskh inscription surrounded by a broad band of finely engraved arabesques, the sides with panels of naskh and kufic inscription alternating with geometric interlace panels divided by roundels containing a blazon or diaper pattern, slight rubbing to centre

Lot Essay

The central panel of the blazon on this vessel has the unusual feature of two cups side by side. Two small cups on a larger cup appear on the blazon on vessels made for the emir Janibay (Mayer, L.: Saracenic Heraldry, Oxford, 1953, p.131).
