See Tamara Praud and Marcelle Brunet, Svres, des origines nos jours, Paris, 1978, p. 230, pl. 314; and Svend Erikson, The David Collection, French Porcelain, Copenhagen, 1980, pl. 67 for other examples of Le satyre courc and mile Bourgeois and Georges Lechevallier-Chevignard, Le biscuit de Svres, receuil des modles de la manufacture de Svres au XVIII sicle, Paris, pl. 10, no. 554 for Le satyre assis.

The present pair is from a small series based on mythological themes modelled circa 1760 by Maurice-Etienne Falconet for the Svres factory. These groups, produced in small numbers, exhibit a freshness and spontaneity of movement not found in the sculptor's more formal compositions of children and mythological subjects.
