Colonel Frederick von Wissell, [C.B.], [K.H.], entered service with the King's German Legion as a Major in 1806 and was appointed Lieutenant-Colonel on 4.6.1813. He served in the Baltic in 1807, the Mediterranean between 1808-12, the Peninsula in 1813, the South of France between 1813-14, the Netherlands in 1814 and at Waterloo 1815, where he took over command of the 1st Brigade King's German Legion after Colonel Charles du Plat was severely wounded. He appears on the British Army Half-Pay List from 24.2.1816, then as Colonel by Brevet in the Hanoverian Service, 2nd Battalion of Guards. He died at Wiesbaden, Grand Dutchy of Nassau on 16.12.1820. He was created a Companion of the Bath, Military Division (London Gazette 16.9.1815 refers) and a Knight of the Hanoverian Guelphic Order.
