An English walnut longcase clock
The re-veneered case with later caddy top to the hood also with later spiral-twist pilasters, glazed side panels, the square top trunk door with moulded border and line inlay, later brass escutcheon and later oval panel covering former lenticle, carved in relief with a figure of Chronos, on stepped plinth with later conch shell inlay and raised on bracket feet (plinth later built up), the 11in. square re-gilded and partially engraved brass dial with cherub and coronet spandrels, now with two screws to the seatboard, signed Jos. Greene NorthSheilds on the silvered chapter ring with half hour and half quarter hour markers, later hands, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring marked at five second intervals, foliate scroll engraving to the centre and hatch engraved border to the date aperture, the four ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and outside countwheel strike on bell, with later seatboard; basically circa 1720, with restorations and replacements, dial and movement possibly associated to case -- 90in.
