Lot Essay

Launched for Eurotramp (of Dunkirk) as the Ville de Metz and built by Ateliers & Chantiers de Dunkerque & Bordeaux at Dunkirk, Heering Mille assumed her new name when she was bought by the Cherry Herring Line of Copenhagen in 1971. Registered at 24,698 tons gross (16,401 net and 43,285 deadweight), she measured 658 feet in length with a 95 foot beam and was powered by a single-acting 6-cylinder 12,600bhp. engine by Societé Forgers & Ateliers du Creusot to give a service speed of 15½ knots. Designed as a bulk carrier with her machinery aft, she had a grain and bale capacity of 1,923,895 and 1,719,829 cubic metres respectively and carried bunkers for 1,945 tons of high viscosity fuel.
