Lot Essay

Ordered for the Cherry Heering Line of Copenhagen, Heering Susan was built by A.G. 'Weser' Werk Seebeck at Bremerhaven in 1967. Registered to carry ore at 8,239 tons gross (4,483 net and 13,105 deadweight) or oil at 11,425 tons gross (6,526 net and 15,615 deadweight), she was specially strengthened for heavy cargoes as well as navigation in ice (Lloyd's Ice Class 3). Measuring 510 feet in length with a 71 foot beam, she was designed with her machinery aft and was powered by single-acting 7-cylinder 10,500bhp. engine by Krupps of Essen to give a service speed of 16¾ knots. Subsequently sold by Cherry Heering, her name was changed to Star Procyon.
