A walnut and seaweed marquetry longcase clock
The front of the case decorated in all over seaweed marquetry, the hood later stepped and with brass ball and spire finials to a caddy top, pilasters to front and rear, the square top trunk door with later mouldings to the frame, on stepped plinth with further later plinth below; with 12in. square brass dial with engraved border and cherub and coronet spandrels to the 2½in. wide silvered chapter ring signed Peter Wise London, with outside five minutes and half hour markers, the matted centre with subsidiary seconds ring marked with intervals of 5, engraving around date aperture (date ring now lacking), now with later circular plaques over former winding holes, inscribed respectively Striking and Chiming, with three later winding holes; with five pillar quarter chiming movement, chiming on eight nested bells and with hour strike on further bell; case and dial circa 1710 (dial adapted), movement second half 19th century -- 95½in. (243cm.) high
