2° (285 x 200mm). Collation: +-++6; a-z8; A-C8; D5. 225 leaves. Double column. Gothic type. Woodcut title printed in red and black inks with equestrian portrait surrounded by an architectural border incorporating the printer's initial. Woodcut printer's device on D5v and white on black initials. (Variable browning, a few leaves ink-marked, a few leaves with marginal worming touching headline, skilful marginal repairs to title and some leaves, clean marginal tear affecting one letter on B1, D1 supplied from another copy and remargined to size.) 19th-century French mottled tan morocco gilt in a Spanish style by Menard, sides with roll-tooled foliate borders between narrow foliate rolls, spine in 6 compartments, contrasting morocco lettering-pieces in 2, the others elaborately gilt, roll-tooled turn-ins, gilt edges (lightly rubbed on joints, head of spine and corners a little rubbed and chipped). Provenance: early inscriptions in Italian and Spanish; armorial bookplate on upper pastedown; R.L. Thomson (presentation inscription on front free endpaper, to); A.F. Walter.
