A MUGHAL DAGGER AND SHEATH
INDIA, 18TH CENTURY
The dagger with recurved tapering ridged double-edged blade with small cusped medallion above, the heavy gold pistol-grip hilt covered with dark green enamel and inset with diagonal rows of foiled ruby and diamond trefoils, the scrolling lower terminals with inset serrated ruby leaves, the upper terminals with diamond and ruby flowerhead on each side, the upper spine with diamond cypress tree issuing tendrils, some loss and restoration of enamel, the green velvet covered wooden sheath with gold mounts above and below, each with similar green enamelling and ruby and diamond trefoils, losses to enamel, terminal damaged
