A George III Scottish mahogany longcase clock, last quarter 18th century
The case with giltwood ball finials to the hood, with later fretwork panel below, brass-capped pilasters to the front and glazed panels to the sides, the trunk with breakarch door, above plinth raised on a wavy apron, the 12in. silvered one piece dial engraved elaborately with foliate spandrels, an oval aperture to the arch with backplate painted with a seascape and with rocking ship (restored), the centre with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, signed JAMES SCOTT LEITH, with cut steel hands, the twin train four pillar movement with large outside countwheel and inside pinned cylinder, quarter chiming on six nested bells and hour striking on a further bell -- 85in. (216cm.) high
