Lot Essay

See P. J. Donnelly, Blanc de Chine, 1969, pp. 194-198 for a discussion on blanc-de-chine religious groups with Christian influence, which the author explains are particularly rare; see pl.123B, a model of similar size to the present lot, originally in the A. W. Bahr collection, which Donnelly claims is unique. Compare also the blanc-de-chine crucifix group of similar size sold in these Rooms, 5 April 2000, lot 77.
