An English mahogany and inlaid quarter-chiming longcase clock
The case with stepped and caddy top (later) to the hood, dentil cornice mouldings, outset brass-capped fluted columns, with further dentil mouldings below the hood and ribbed band above the 'onion' arch trunk door topped by a fleur-de-lys moulding, the door with moulded frame, chequer inlays and central bats' wing patera, flanked by chamfered angles with line inlays forming mock reeding, on plinth with chequer inlaid border and conforming central patera (split), raised on bracket feet, the 13in. wide brass dial with cherub mask foliate spandrels to the brass chapter ring signed Wm. Shaw Botesdale, subsidiary seconds ring to the centre, steel hands, a disc to the arch inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT within dolphin spandrels, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement, quarter chiming on four gongs and hour striking on another, with extended backboard to house the gong stand; associated, dial and movement late 19th/20th century, case probably early 19th century -- 93in.
