The astronomical tables prepared for Hülegü, Persian manuscript on buff paper, 140ff. with 25ll. of spidery naskh verging on nasta'liq and many tables in red and black with titles in larger script, opening flyleaf with royal Mughal seal impressions, worm damage and slight staining, recently restored, later brown morocco binding with tooled decoration

Lot Essay

This manuscript has been in the Royal Mughal Library of four Mughal emperors. It bears the library notes and seal impressions of Muhammad Sharif and Maqsud 'Ali (Akbar), Jahangir, Amanat Khan and 'Inayat Khan (Shah Jehan) and Lutfallah Khan (Aurangzeb). The notes record the inspection of the library, when it was seen by an emperor or when a librarian was repleaced and the manuscript was handed over to a new librarian.
