A KYO-SUKASHI TSUBA
MOMOYAMA PERIOD (1573-1600)

The iron plate of eight flower-petal (hachi mokko) shape is decorated with a chain of drums (tamadore) and drum sticks. There are some slight bones on the edge--height 8.3cm., width 8.1cm., thickness 5.1mm.

This large kyo-sukashi tsuba is decorated with the rare design of a ring of thunderdrums. The quality and design are exemplary and represent the very best of this school.
