A MITO SCHOOL TSUBA
EDO PERIOD (CIRCA 1750)

The thick, oval iron plate is carved in the web with a dragon in the round. The eyes and teeth are in gold. The round rim and edge have a shibuichi rim cover. The surface of the dragon is carved with finely detailed scales--height 7.9cm., width 7.7cm., thickness 6.75mm.

Lot Essay

This is a classic, unsigned example of the work of one of the four generations that signed Ichiryu (Hitotsuyanagi) Tomoyoshi between 1740 and 1840.
