Private Edward Henry Riseborough was killed in action on the Somme on 16.9.1916, while serving with the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards. The previous day the Battalion had commenced an attack towards Lesboeufs, heavy casualties being caused by enemy machine-gun fire in the sunken Ginchy-Flers Road. By the time it was relieved on the 16th, 440 men had become casualties (See Westlake's British Battalions on the Somme).
