A Jizhou 'Papercut' Stenciled Bowl
Southern Song dynasty, 12th-13th century
With conical body raised on a very shallow ring foot, the interior with paper-cut decoration of a blossoming prunus branch and a phoenix reserved in dark brown against a variegated buff ground, the exterior with a 'tortoiseshell' glaze of buff and dark brown color ending at the foot to expose the pale buff ware; together with a thinly potted, high-shouldered jar, possibly Jizhou, Song/Yuan dynasty, covered with a dark brown glaze continuing over the rim and ending just above the flat base to expose the pale buff body
