Lot Essay

This bowl is from the same atelier as one sold at Sotheby's New York, 23rd June 1989, lot 216. Both are typified by the design in the centre and the brilliant cobalt-blue rim.
Some of the fragments of this bowl appear to have suffered from fire. The black ground has slightly discoloured and the glaze has bubbled. This must have been after the bowl was in pieces as adjacent fragments are in as pristine condition as on the day that it was made.
