Lot Essay

15789 Private Clement Ryder, born, lived and enlisted in Liverpool, was killed in action Trones Wood 10-12 July, 1916 during the Battle of the Somme and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial. A member of the Sniping Section, he was waiting for an enemy counter-attack under a heavy bombardment when a shell fell in front of him and he was killed instantaneously.
