Provenance: George Baillie (d.1738, signatures, armorial bookplate, dated 1724 and designating him "one of the Lords of the Treasury"); Sir Thomas Phillipps (1792-1872, sale Sothebys 30 June 1976, lot 4518, sold £130); George Goyder (armorial bookplate).
A fine set of Locke's Letters on Toleration, the last two first editions. The Letters.. form one of the two corner-stones of "the empirical approach to social and political economy which has remained ever since the basis of the principles of democracy" (PMM p.98). Wing L-2748; L-2755; L-2765.
