Title with large woodcut vignette, numerous woodcut illustrations of prodigies and portents throughout, including one double-page and some repeats, woodcut printer's device on final leaf. (Tear to HH6 affecting text, marginal repair to LL5, occasional marginal worming, slight browning.) Rebound in old limp vellum.
FIRST EDITION of an exhaustive anthology of prodigies and portents. The work is illustrated with some 1600 woodcuts showing every kind of apparition and prodigy, including several by H. R. Manuel Deutsch and David Kandel: it was one of the most profusely illustrated books published at Basle in the 16th century. A German translation was published in the same year, also by Heinrich Petri. This copy has many contemporary underlinings and some annotations.
