Lot Essay
The wooden schooner Yale, 681 tons, was built by G. W. Cottrall at Belfast, Maine, in 1884. Owned by L. Armstrong and trading out of New Haven, Connecticut, shw as 166 feet in length, with a 35 foot beam and a 17½ foot draught. On 30 October 1899, whilst on passage from Savannah to Philadelphia with a cargo of railway sleepers, Yale was abonadoned (reasons unkown) in the Atlantic but eventually drifted, derelict, into Eleuthera in the Bahamas.
