Two embossed and pierced paperlace valentine cards, one stamp marked Dobbs, both applied with hand-coloured flowers and leaves, one with a pierced paperlace envelope applied to the centre, with a manuscript verse above and below 'Let fate do her worst: there are relics of joys/Bright dreams of the past which she cannot destroy/Which comes in the night time of sorrow and care/To bring back the future that joy used to wear/Long, long be my heart with such memory filled/Like the vase in which roses once have been distilled/You may break, you may ruin the vase, if you will/But the scent of the roses will hang round it still/Valentine', the envelope opens to reveal the manuscript words 'Forget Me Not where'er thou art', above and below an applied printed verse, the sender has also written 'Read all of this and believe it'; and another similar, 10 x 8in., 1840-60.
