A George III oak and mahogany cross-banded longcase clock, circa 1780
The case with stepped top hood with outset front-fluted columns, the cross-banded mahogany trunk door flanked by reeded pilasters, with conforming banding to the plinth with canted angles, the 12½in. square brass cut-away dial with mask and foliate spandrels (one lacking) to the Roman and Arabic chapter ring, signed S. Whalley Manchester, the matted centre with engraved foliate scrolls and subsidiary seconds and date rings (date hand lacking), the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike -- 84½in. (215cm.) high
