A George II ebonised and brass-mounted striking bracket clock with alarm and pull quarter repeat, circa 1730
The case with brass handle and pineapple finials to an inverted bell top, with silk-backed cast brass frets to the sides cast with radiant cherub masks, further frets above, the brass-lined front door with frets to the arch (lacking) and the rear door conforming, raised on foliate cast scroll feet, the brass dial with engraved border and female bust lower spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and lozenge half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with mock pendulum aperture and signed on a reserve above the box date aperture Chas. Clay LONDON, blued steel hands (later, minute damaged), with subsidiary silvered pendulum regulation and strike/silent dials above, each engraved with a stellar design to the centre, the arch above with silvered alarm-setting ring, the seven pillar triple chain fusee movement with reconverted verge escapement and Continental style pendulum, hour strike on a replaced bell, with pull wind alarm via three hammers on the same bell, with pull quarter repeat on six nested bells (replaced), later pendulum regulation, the back plate engraved overall, a figure with pipe and quiver to the centre and birds above, surrounded by foliate scrolls and within a hatched border -- 19¼in.
