Lot Essay

The Sèvres sales records note the delivery on 19 May 1770 of six coquetiers frize colorées à M. de Champcenel for the use of the king at the chàteau de Bellevue at a cost of 72 livres. It is possible that the present egg cups is one of these six.

See Collection Charles-Otto Zieseniss; Christie's Paris, 6 December 2001, lot 213 for an example of similar form and decoration dated 1766 and painted by Xhrouet
