A Mino Short Sword (Wakizashi) and Koshirae (Mounting)
Muromachi period (15th century)
The configuration shinogi-zukuri (longitudinal ridge line), iori-mune (shallow-peaked back) and chu-kissaki (medium point), the curvature torii-zori; the forging pattern itame with mokume (wood grain) and the tempered edge suguba (parallel to the back of the blade) with notare, the tip hakikake; tang shortened with sujikai (angled) file marks and two peg holes; double gilt-copper habaki with file mark decoration

Koshirae comprising a saya (scabbard) in red lacquer with black lacquer lines in a criss-cross pattern and fitted with iron mounts carved with clouds and with traces of gilt and shakudo, the kozuka iron and flush-inlaid gold and silver with vines and leaves, with signature Musashi ju Moritsugu, the kogai in the form of a ken blade with the handle iron cast with clouds and vines in silver and gilt; the tsuka (handle) mounted with matching fuchi-kashira and kenuki menuki (tweezer-shaped menuki) with a roundel of a gilt Chinese lions; the tsuba a four lobe iron plate with signature Namitoshi
