A large Meissen allegorical group
Circa 1880, cancelled blue crossed swords mark, incised J?50.111 and Pressnummer 42, decorated outside the factory
Modelled with a vestal virgin in a blue toga, a long white gilt-flowered robe draped from her head, her hands tied with a wreath of roses, standing languidly and gazing into a classical youth's eyes, he with a garland of roses in his hair and scantily clad with a puce robe, holding a butterfly in his left hand and a flaming torch next to two billing doves on a triangular altar festooned with garlands and with gilt ram's heads at the corners, winged harpies at the lower corners, an open box with a plate and wreaths behind them, on an oval plinth base edged with up-turned gilt foliage divided by gadroons (crack across majority of base, one harpy's wing and her left small finger lacking, chip to another wing, minute chipping to garlands and wreaths, firing crack to reverse of base)
