C.G. Macartney's 170 and J.M. Gregory's 93 gave Australia a commanding first innings lead, and though less effective than Gregory and Kelleway against England in the first innings, Mailey once again proved to be the main strike bowler in the second, his 5 for 119 securing an Australian victory by nine wickets.
