An attractive 19th-Century lacquered-brass monocular microscope,
engraved Schieck in Berlin No1438, in a fitted mahogany case -- 34.2cm. (13½in.) wide

The body-tube is connected via a short limb to a triangular-section column, along which runs the rack and pinion focusing. This is mounted atop a tapered brass column; the stage has a swinging condensor mount beneath, as well as sprung micrometer adjustment, and a plano-concave substage mirror. The main column is raised on three folding splayed feet (one detached). The fitted case has some brown plush lining and contains: four eyepieces; four objectives, one for high-power; a separate set of six objectives; foot-mounted bull's-eye condensor; live box; stage forceps; and some glass sliders. There is also a hand-written piece of Schieck-embossed paper outlining the magnification.
