TWO BRASS-HILTED HANGERS
The first French (?), late 18th Century, the second Russian, 19th Century
Each with curved single-edged blade double-edged towards the point and with a fuller on each face, the guard of the first formed as a double-shell, continuing to the pommel as a knuckle-guard, with a curved diagonal bar on the outside, and short rear quillon, the monster-head pommel cast in one with a simulated wire-bound grip, the shell engraved 'Rt XV. Co. K. No. 54', in a brass-mounted leather scabbard (tip and chape missing); the second with engraved defaced crowned cypher on the forte, the guard comprising heart-shaped shell, continuing to the pommel as a knuckle-guard, globular pommel with button, and spirally fluted brass grip with later applied silver devices
